Cardputer favors compact experiments

The Cardputer's small integrated format is compelling for command launchers, sensor terminals, infrared tools, small games, automation controllers, and quick ESP32 projects. Its tight keyboard and screen impose real limits on long typing sessions, but the whole device is easy to carry and inexpensive to dedicate to one task.

T-Deck favors terminal-style interaction

The T-Deck family offers a larger handheld surface, keyboard, display, pointer-style input, and LoRa-oriented variants. That shape is more natural for messaging, mapping interfaces, and field dashboards, but firmware maturity and included hardware vary by exact model and seller bundle.

Software matters more than the shell

Before buying, identify a maintained project or development workflow that supports the exact board revision. Check display, keyboard, trackball, audio, radio, battery, and expansion support rather than assuming code for a similar ESP32-S3 device will work unchanged.

Our decision rule

Choose Cardputer for the smallest self-contained programmable tool and a gentler first build. Choose T-Deck when the larger interface, LoRa path, or communicator form is central to the project. Choose neither if your workload requires desktop Linux applications; these are microcontroller platforms, not pocket PCs in the conventional sense.
